As the Kansas Legislature's response to the challenges faced by policyholders when an insurance company becomes insolvent, the Kansas Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association was created in 1972 to protect state residents who are policyholders and beneficiaries of policies issued by an insolvent insurance company, up to specified limits.

Our Mission and Purpose

Our mission is to provide a safety net for policyholders who may lose insurance coverage due to an insolvent insurance company. We work to ensure that Kansas residents continue to receive the insurance coverage they need, even in the event of an insurance company failure. We strive to provide timely and reliable protection, while also working to minimize disruptions to policyholders' lives.

How We Operate

As a statutory entity, we are composed of all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, health insurance, and individual annuities in the state of Kansas. When a member insurer is found to be insolvent and is ordered liquidated by a court, we take over the insurer's policies and assets to ensure that policyholders continue to receive the coverage they need.

We cover individual life and health insurance policies, as well as individual annuity contracts issued by our member insurers. These policies typically include:
