At Howard County Mutual Insurance Association, we pride ourselves on being a mutual insurance company, owned and controlled by our policyholders. Founded in 1890, we have been providing insurance to farm and home owners in Northeast Iowa for over 130 years.
Our history dates back to the late 19th century, when farmers and community leaders came together to form a mutual insurance company to provide fire protection for buildings and personal property. Today, we continue to serve the same community, offering a range of insurance products and services designed to meet the unique needs of our policyholders.

Our team is led by a board of directors, comprised of experienced industry professionals who are dedicated to serving our policyholders. We also have a full-time adjustor on staff, as well as a team of experienced agents who work closely with our policyholders to understand their insurance needs and develop customized policies that meet their specific needs.

History of Howard County Mutual Insurance Association
Howard County Mutual Insurance Association was founded on June 15, 1890, as the Farmers Union Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Association of Howard and Winneshiek Counties. Over the years, we have grown and evolved, merging with Bohemian Mutual of Protivin in 2000. Today, we are proud to be one of the oldest and most respected insurance companies in Northeast Iowa.
