At Iowa Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association, our mission is to provide protection to Iowa resident policyholders in the event of an insurance company insolvency. We are a statutory entity created in 1987 to ensure that policyholders receive the benefits they deserve even if their insurance company becomes insolvent.
Our Services
We provide coverage to Iowa residents who hold life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with an insolvent insurer. Our protection is based on Iowa law and the language of the insolvent company's policies at the time of insolvency. We take over the servicing of the insolvent insurance company's policies and provide coverage to eligible policyholders through a special deputy receiver under court supervision.
How We Work
In the event of an insurance company insolvency, we work with the court-appointed receiver to process the insurer's assets and liabilities through a legal proceeding known as "liquidation." Our role is to provide protection to Iowa resident policyholders who are eligible for coverage under the Iowa Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association Act.
