Your Trusted Partner in Leading the Fraud Fight

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) is a leading organization dedicated to combating insurance fraud and theft in the United States. We partner with insurance companies, consumers, and law enforcement agencies to protect against various forms of fraud, including vehicle, medical, workers' compensation, property and cargo, and contractor fraud. Our mission is to preserve the integrity of the insurance industry, ensure the fairness of the insurance marketplace, and safeguard consumers from the financial implications of fraud.

Fighting Vehicle Fraud and Crimes

At NICB, we build upon our proud legacy of combating vehicle-related crimes impacting the insurance industry. We leverage specialized experience, knowledge, and unique datasets to lead the charge against vehicle fraud and crimes, including fighting vehicle theft, staged auto accidents, and auto repair scams. Our commitment extends to educating the public on various aspects of vehicle fraud and theft, providing tips, and offering the VINCheck service. This enables vehicle owners to check a vehicle's history and identify potential issues, ultimately protecting consumers from becoming victims of fraud.

Medical Fraud Tracking and Trends

We are at the forefront of identifying and combating medical-related insurance fraud and crimes. Medical professionals may bill for unnecessary or unperformed procedures, or engage in prescription drug rings. NICB's expertise extends to addressing medical fraud trends and patterns, and we work diligently to protect consumers from the financial and health consequences of medical fraud.

Preventing Insurance Fraud

Our initiatives to prevent insurance fraud reach beyond vehicle and medical fraud. We educate the public, insurance companies, and law enforcement agencies on various forms of fraud, offering resources and tools tailored to each stakeholder. Our focus involves raising awareness of common fraud schemes such as workers' compensation fraud, property and cargo theft, and contractor fraud. Additionally, we provide support to law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting fraud cases, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Contractor Fraud & Disaster Response

In the aftermath of disasters, NICB leads the effort to prevent, identify, and investigate contractor fraud. Contractor fraud awareness is crucial during these times, as home and business owners turn to contractors for rebuilding. By partnering with various stakeholders, we strive to minimize the financial and emotional impact of fraud on disaster victims, ensuring that recovery efforts are not undermined by unscrupulous contractors.

Achievements and Impact

In 2023, NICB's efforts led to the recovery of 309,593 vehicles, the identification of $93 million in specialized equipment recoveries, and the processing of 159,392 questionable claims. Our educational programs provided 155,760 total hours of instruction to members and law enforcement personnel, ensuring that they remain well-equipped to handle emerging fraud trends and patterns.
