At Outer Banks Insurance Agency, Inc., we are proud to be the oldest insurance company on the beach, with over 60 years of dedicated service to the Outer Banks community. Our story began in 1957 when M. Keith Fearing, Jr. founded our agency by merging two previous insurance agencies. Keith was a respected businessman and pharmacist who was instrumental in establishing the first bank on Hatteras Island, bringing central water to the Barrier Island beaches, and serving as a State Representative in the General Assembly.

Our agency has remained family-owned and operated since its inception. Keith's son, Malcolm K. Fearing III, joined the business in 1980 and went on to marry his bride, Susan, whom he met at the Southeastern Insurance Institute. Malcolm and Susan now own the agency, with their children and grandchildren being an integral part of the family business.

In 2009, Keith's granddaughter, Kathryn Fearing, joined the agency and has since taken the reins of supervising the daily operations. Kathryn graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting and a minor in Business Administration. She has prioritized building trust, loyalty, and friendship with our clients while offering excellent service, quality insurance products, and attractive rates.
