Protecting Your Possessions, Securing Your Future
METROFIRE is a non-profit association of 34 metropolitan Boston fire departments that provides coordination of mutual aid response to improve the effectiveness of fire services. The organization was formed in 1976, expanded in 1980, and incorporated in 2003. With the support and approval of their local governments, the fire departments, which comprise METROFIRE, work together to achieve greater protection for the communities they serve.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a collaborative framework for the sharing of resources, expertise, and personnel among our member departments. By doing so, we aim to ensure that the communities we serve receive the best possible fire and emergency medical services. Our members recognize that no individual community can afford to completely equip and staff a department to provide total self-protection.
Our Services
METROFIRE offers a range of services designed to support the fire departments and emergency medical services within our member communities. These services include:
- Coordination of multi-community fire and EMS response: We provide a coordinated response to major incidents, allowing us to deploy specialized equipment and personnel from across our member departments.
- Provision of an interoperable and integrated radio communications network: Our radio network enables seamless communication between member departments, allowing for a more efficient and effective response to emergencies.
- Planning and training for fire and medical response: We work with our member departments to develop and implement training programs, ensuring that our responders are prepared to handle any situation that may arise.
- Responding to major incidents with specialized equipment and staff: When a major incident occurs, we deploy specialized equipment and personnel from across our member departments to ensure that the incident is brought under control quickly and effectively.
- Homeland Security coordination: We work closely with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure that our member departments are prepared to respond to homeland security threats.
- Disaster response: In the event of a disaster, we coordinate the response efforts of our member departments to ensure that the affected communities receive the assistance they need.
