Assisting Connecticut Residents in Times of Need
Our Mission and Purpose
At the Connecticut Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, our mission is to protect the interests of Connecticut residents who are policyholders, beneficiaries, or contract and certificate holders of an insolvent insurance company. We strive to provide financial protection, up to specified limits, to ensure that policyholders continue to receive the coverage they need during this critical period.
Our History and Structure
Established in 1972, our organization is a statutory entity created by the Connecticut legislature. We are composed of all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, accident and health insurance, and individual annuities in the state of Connecticut. Effective July 1, 2018, healthcare centers authorized to issue any kind of insurance in Connecticut or conduct any healthcare business became members of our association.
Our Services
When a member insurer becomes insolvent and is ordered liquidated by a court, we take over the responsibility of servicing the insurance company's policies, subscriber contracts, or certificates and providing coverage to Connecticut residents who are eligible for guaranty association coverage. We work closely with the liquidator, who is responsible for processing the assets and liabilities of the insolvent insurer.
Eligibility and Coverage
We provide financial protection to individual policyholders, healthcare center subscriber contract- and certificate-holders, and their beneficiaries. Our coverage typically includes persons protected by certificates of insurance issued under policies of group life or group health insurance. Limits on benefits and coverage are established by state law. For more information about coverage, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions section or contact us directly.
Multiple-State Coverage
If you move to another state after purchasing insurance, you may still have guaranty association coverage. We work with other guaranty associations to ensure that policyholders receive continued coverage, regardless of their state of residence.
Our Commitment
At the Connecticut Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, we are committed to providing timely and accurate information to our policyholders. We strive to ensure that our services are in accordance with the most current law enacted by the Connecticut legislature. However, please note that if there is any inconsistency between the Guaranty Association Act or any other law or regulation and the information on our website, the relevant law will govern.
