Our History

Heneghan, White, Cutting & Roentz Insurance Agency boasts a rich and storied history, proudly claiming its spot as the oldest continuously operating business in Jersey County, Illinois. Adding to this distinction, the agency stands as one of the oldest insurance agencies within the state. Our journey began in 1859 with Isaac Harbet, who established a modest agency representing the Home Insurance Company. Soon after, Leonard M. Cutting Sr. acquired the agency, rebranding it as the Cutting Agency.

Leonard M. Cutting Sr., a dedicated insurance professional, laid the foundation for the agency's enduring success. Upon his passing in 1893, his son, Leonard Cutting Jr., inherited the mantle of leadership. Leonard Jr. made the significant decision to transfer his agency interests to his cousin, D.E. Beaty, in 1909. D.E. Beaty, assuming the title of "Manager, " skillfully steered the agency through the following decades, nurturing its reputation for exceptional service and expanding its operations.

Over the 69 years under D.E. Beaty's ownership, the agency flourished, solidifying its position as a trusted name in the insurance industry. In 1931, recognizing both the agency's potential and the value of a strong partnership, D.E. Beaty joined forces with Irving White, a respected figure in the Jersey community known for his integrity, fairness, and deep understanding of banking, merchandising, and agriculture.

This marked the transition to the White-Cutting Agency, a union that ushered in a new era of prosperity for the agency. Irving White, known for his exceptional character, further solidified the agency's commitment to outstanding service.

After serving his country in World War II, Irving White's son, Charlie, returned home in 1946 and took the helm of the White-Cutting Agency. Generations of the White family dedicated their expertise to guiding the agency's growth and stability for over four decades before Steven Rice acquired the agency in 1987. Rice, a local entrepreneur, seamlessly integrated his vision into the established legacy, leading to the agency's transformation into White, Cutting, and Rice Insurance Agency.
