Our History

Madelia Lake Crystal Mutual Insurance Co. has a long and rich history deeply rooted in the communities of South Central Minnesota. Established in 1887 as the Madelia Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company, it was the brainchild of a group of visionary local farmers who recognized the need for reliable and affordable insurance solutions within their area. Over the decades, the company persevered, adapting to the evolving needs of its policyholders and expanding its reach. In 1915, Farmers Home Mutual Insurance Company, affectionately known as "Old Madelia, " built a new office building, welcoming the Madelia Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company to share its space.

Seventy years later, in 1985, the company made a significant move, constructing a new office building directly across the street from its predecessor. This vibrant space, located at 111 West Main Street in Madelia, continues to serve as the company's home office, a testament to its enduring commitment to the community it serves.

In 1972, a momentous merger took place, uniting Madelia Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company with the Lake Crystal Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. This landmark event marked the beginning of Madelia-Lake Crystal Mutual Insurance Company, further solidifying its position as a leading provider of insurance services in the region.
